Morton’s Siesta Market Brings Gourmet Food to Siesta Key Foodies

Sister company to Sarasota’s well-known Morton’s Gourmet Market on Osprey Avenue, the newly opened Morton’s Siesta Market provides the same great quality and service on Siesta Key.

50 Years of Morton’s Family History

The company has been a landmark for high quality epicurean foods in Sarasota for almost 50 years. This premiere specialty food company started when Ted Morton arrived in Sarasota back in 1952. He had worked in the food business in Tampa as a Nabisco sales rep and he quickly found work at Marable’s Market, an independent grocery store in the up-and-coming city.

After 17 years, Ted purchased the business and eventually added his name over the door rebranding it “Morton’s Market” in 1978 and adding a smokehouse a year later. The store became a family-run concern, with Ted’s wife Pauline and his sons, Denny (DK) and Kenny building on the established reputation of the earlier independent grocery store. Their aim was to supply their customers with the best possible food along with their own personal brand of personal service.

In 1997, Ted decided to retire and sold the business, but 10 years later it was back in family hands, now run as Morton’s Gourmet Market by Eddie Morton and his son Todd.

New Gourmet Food Market on Siesta Key

The latest chapter of this family business was the opening of Morton’s Siesta Market in 2015. This coincided with the closure of Siesta Market and ensured the continuation of a quality grocery store in Siesta Village without residents having to leave the island. After extensive remodeling, Morton’s Siesta Market opened its doors to offer locally grown produce, specialty foods and quality items as well as focusing on prepared meals.

Ideal for vacationers and locals who don’t want to eat out every night, but don’t want to spend time in the kitchen either, these Gourmet-to-Go meals are the perfect solution. Chef prepared, the range includes gourmet entrees such as Moroccan Chicken with Couscous, and favorite comfort foods such as their signature meatloaf and Beef Stroganoff. Homemade soups are ideal for light lunches and appetizers and include Clair’s Butternut Squash and Chili con Carne, a meal in itself.

The Hot Deli will have your mouth watering as you check out the beautiful array of hot pressed Cuban sandwiches, delectable ribs, pulled pork and smoked chicken. You can taste the quality and care with which each dish is prepared. Morton’s Siesta Market also proves that high quality does not have to mean high prices.
