Historical Tours, Displays and Exhibits
History comes alive at this downtown Fort Myers, Florida attraction through numerous tours, displays, exhibits, and artifacts about Southwest Florida and its early settlers. The Southwest Florida History Museum occupies the former Atlantic Coastline Railroad depot. Traveling exhibits are hosted throughout the year highlighting the history and culture of another people, country, time or era.
Step aboard a 1929 private Pullman railcar and peek inside a Cracker House. Explore the history of the Paleo period, the Calusa and Seminole Indians, Spanish explorers, military, cattle ranchers, farmers, and fishermen at the Southwest Florida Museum of History. Explore “Land of Giants: Paleo Florida” to learn about animals, such as Mammoths, Mastodons, Giant Ground Sloths, and the Saber Tooth Cat which roamed the area approximately 12,000 years ago!
