I like to think of myself as an amateur chef of sorts, emphasis clearly on amateur since I have neither a degree in culinary arts nor have I ever worked at a restaurant. Nonetheless, the preparation of food has always been an enjoyable part of my day; even as a teen the only chore I did not mind doing was menu planning and cooking dinner. Naturally, then I was interested to check out The Spice & Tea Exchange on St. Armand’s Circle to see what new flavors I could discover. The store not only smells good but it is also visually pleasing with hardwood floors and bulk spices stored in glass jars on wooden shelves lining the walls. Spices can be bought alone or in special blends made by the store. Some of my favorites were the premixed spices for grilling, each with a different flavor palate in mind and an endless array of choices. The Spice & Tea Exchange also has a large selection of salts such as Black Lava Salt, Jalapeno Salt, and the currently popular Pink Himalayan Salt. The most exciting section for me, as an avid tea drinker, was the section of the store containing bulk tea. The combinations are beautiful and smell divine. I chose to purchase a loose-leaf Darjeeling tea and a Coconut Oolong tea (the latter of which I am currently drinking). Whether looking for a unique gift for someone back home or seeking out a new ingredient for your spice cabinet, The Spice & Tea Exchange on St. Armand’s Circle is a worthwhile stop for both visitors and locals alike.
