The Coolinary brings a fresh new look to dining in Sarasota. This American fusion restaurant has a hint of Hungary in its menu and classical European atmosphere. How cool is that!
Opened in 2016, The Coolinary is on the second floor at 1359 Main Street in downtown Sarasota and is easy to reach by elevator. It is owned by a group of investors that jointly own more than 40 restaurants across Europe. Their signature mission is to create high-end American gastronomy using fresh, natural, and organic ingredients. They are committed to healthy GMO-free, hormone-free meat and do not use artificial ingredients such as MSG in any of their dishes. They also make use of the latest European techniques.
CEO, Istvan Bottyan, was born and raised in Budapest where he worked on the family farm. He enjoyed literature and gastronomy on his travels around Europe. Eventually his passions led him into the world of culinary arts.
The Coolinary Restaurant in Downtown Sarasota
The Coolinary decor provides a chic downtown vibe more familiar with gastro cities and culinary hubs such as Denver and New Orleans. Cozy nooks and different dining table levels provide a sense of privacy for diners.
The menu offers a fusion of tastes such as house-smoked salmon on a bed of celeriac slaw with roasted pecan and horseradish. Beef tartare served with pickled vegetables, wasabi aioli and rustic toast tickle the taste buds with flavor. More down to earth choices on the menu include grilled free-range chicken with mash, green asparagus and truffle jus.
If you want something more Hungarian, try the tasty Goulash soup, a staple, followed by Chicken Paprikash with Spaetzli and for dessert, sweet Dobos Torte with chocolate buttercream and caramel. The Coolinary offers a wide variety of entrees at a price point that is easy on the wallet. Their menu even includes delicious vegetarian and vegan choices. Sides include inventive offerings such as Grilled Zucchini with Olives and Feta or Oven-Roasted Cauliflower.
Special one-off evenings are worth looking out for and are always fully booked. These include Champagne Dinners with a 5-course set menu and Wine Dinners including delicate amuse bouche, starter, main course, and dessert with wine and live music!
The Coolinary Bar and Live Entertainment
The clean European influence continues into the bar which, like the restaurant, is open from Tuesday through Sunday. Happy Hour is 5-6 p.m. daily. Thursday is Ladies Night when drinks for ladies are at Happy Hour prices all night long.
High-top tables in the bar are the place to gather with friends and enjoy house wine, beer and cocktails. Try the Gin Season cocktail, a blend of gin, elderflower, cucumber, and citrus for a delicious pre-dinner drink.
