Raised in Sarasota, Nancy Krohngold tried her hand at secretarial work, graphic design and law work before finally turning her hand to what she was clearly born to do – cook Carolina-style barbecue pulled pork!
Eight years later, Nancy’s Bar-B-Q on S. Pineapple Ave in Sarasota is thriving. The former Sinclair Garage has been transformed to create a homey barbecue restaurant with a friendly Old Florida atmosphere.
Counter Service at Nancy’s Bar-B-Q
Place your order at the counter then carry your freshly cooked hot meal to a convenient table. Dine indoors at long communal tables and make new friends or pick your spot at one of the picnic tables outdoors on the porch. Speaking of picnics, Nancy’s even does a Picnic meal to-go including sides, rolls and a bottle of BBQ sauce.
It seems that Nancy’s Bar-B-Q hits just the right notes with her die-hard regulars. The oak-fueled smokehouse adds unique taste and tenderness to ribs, beef brisket, chicken, pork, sausages and even salmon.
The secret of the pulled pork sandwiches has to be the vinegar-based Carolina finishing sauce in addition to the sweet bar-b-q sauce. Everything is cooked “low and slow” six days a week, but you’ll have to do your own home grilling on Sundays!
Those that can’t stay to dine can pick up a take-out meal or order food to go. Ordering is easy. Pick a classic smoked meat such as a pulled pork tray, a slab of ribs or perhaps a Beef-o-Rama sandwich. The mouthwatering smoked meats are served with popular southern sides and two side dishes are sensibly included in the price. Take your pick from fresh baked cornbread, baked beans (slow smoked of course), sesame crunch slaw, red skin potato salad, baked mac n’cheese….the list goes on and on.
Tractor Pull or Prairie Combine?
If you really can’t decide which meat to have, the assortment was designed for you. Try the signature Tractor Pull (full slab of ribs, half chicken, half pound pulled pork, half pound brisket, 4 sausages, 3 pint sides and a dozen slider rolls) and you can feed the neighborhood for a week! That’s the smaller option. The Prairie Combine and the Hay Baler serve at least 8 diners with a hungry-man appetite.
Typical of any success story, you might have a short wait to be served at Nancy’s Bar-B-Q, but she’s even fixed that. Icy cold beers and a variety of beverages are available at the door so you can start to relax to the sound of the roadhouse music and browse the menu while you wait.
Better yet, if you’re organizing a family get-together, a special event or even a fundraiser, checkout Nancy’s Bar-B-Q catering service, then sit back and take the compliments for providing great catering!
Next time you’re in Sarasota and feeling hungry, head to Nancy’s Bar-B-Q. It may be your first visit, but it certainly won’t be your last!
