Beach Piez

By: Gillian Birch

Most of us are guilty of eating over 1000 meals a year, and quite a number of those are pies, or should I say “piez”. Located in Bailey’s Shopping Center on Periwinkle Way, Beach Piez serves the Sanibel community with some of the tastiest pizza pies, slices, subs, wings, and cheesesticks in Southwest Florida. Opened in 2014 by Chicago native Chuck Bergstrom, the restaurant greets customers with a warm waft of garlic and cheese. There’s no space for dining-in, but the pizzeria does offer a carry-out or free delivery service (orders over $20) across Sanibel Island.

Open most days from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. (10 p.m. Thursday through Saturday) and from noon on Sundays, Beach Piez bakes everything fresh to order and has built a reputation for offering delicious pizza and hot snacks at a fair price. From noon to 4 p.m. you can assuage your appetite with a delicious New York Slice and Soda for just $5.99.

Their secret to success is using only the freshest top quality products, mouthwatering mozzarella, specialty dough made in New York and flash-frozen before heading south, and a tasty homemade pizza sauce. The combination has led to Beach Piez being acclaimed the “best pizzeria on Sanibel”.

Design Your Own Beach Piez

The Beach Piez menu has something for everyone with 16 and 18-inch pizza pies starting at $15.99 for a Just the Cheese pizza featuring their delectable homemade sauce. Fans drool over the great toppings and crust that they describe as thin but nicely chewy.

Add pepperoni, ham, bacon, sausage, onions, green peppers, black olives, jalapenos, banana peppers, spinach, meatballs, grilled chicken, onions, tomatoes, mushrooms, or whatever your favorite topping happens to be, then tuck into a slice of heaven. Beach Piez even creates a special gluten free pizza for those with wheat intolerance.

Manager’s Specials change regularly but often include deals such as a Meatball Sub with a bottle of water or a platter of Wings (Hot, BBQ, or Teriyaki). While you’re waiting for your order, tuck into a starter of 2-for-$1 Cookies – Cheesestick flavor, of course!

The White Pie is a particular favorite with locals. The dough is lightly brushed with olive oil, garlic, and ricotta cheese. The base is then topped with a blend of provolone and mozzarella followed by spinach leaves, basil, and fresh cut tomatoes. Once cooked, the pie crust is brushed with garlic butter for that finishing touch.

Beach Piez Delivers!

When you’re engrossed in a task or don’t want to spend time going to the store or fast food outlet for something to quell your rumbling belly, Beach Piez comes to the rescue. It offers free delivery across Sanibel to your workplace, home, or beach access point for orders over $20 and charges a small fee for delivery to Captiva.

With a coveted Trip Advisor Certificate of Excellence 2016, Beach Piez seems to have a following of happy customers who keep coming back for their “fix” of tasty toppings and perfectly cooked pizza on a regular basis. If you’re staying on Sanibel, this is the perfect place to dine!
