Ship Channel
It might not be a beauty spot, but the Houston Ship Channel is a fascinating sightseeing stop nonetheless. Lined by oil refineries (quite picturesque twinkling at night), the bustling waterway is teeming with massive container ships, towering grain elevators, tugs and barges, and complex pipe systems. The Sam Houston Inspection Ship will take you on a free, 90-minute tour of the upper seven miles of the deep-water channel. You'll ride in style on the 1950s-era boat. replete with mahogany-trimmed cabin and observation decks. If you drive farther south along the channel, you'll reach the San Jacinto Battlefield, where Texas waged and won its war for independence from Mexico, and the Battleship Texas, open for tours.More Activities and Attractions
