For those seeking more adventure get moving with a sailboat or boat rental and set out into Sarasota Bay and the intracoastal waterways. Or ride across the Gulf waters aboard a personal watercraft. Kayaking the mangroves is one way to get up close with nature, and get a work out. You can also learn how to kiteboard or windsurf. With steady breezes and wide-open expanses of water, Sarasota Bay is a perfect spot for riding the wild wind on a windsurfer or kiteboard. There are also places where you can rent equipment and get instructions, whether you're a beginner or an expert and everyone in between. In addition to the gear, they offer beginning through advanced instruction. How about trying the hottest new water sport - stand-up paddleboarding? Perhaps a view of the Gulf of Mexico from hundreds of feet in the air sounds more appealing. Parasailing is a popular way to take in the Gulf's beauty as you soar high above the surf and sand. Several local business offer individual or group parasailing opportunities.

Dive a Florida shipwreck. If you love to mingle with fish or dabble in underwater photography, this area has lots of SCUBA diving options. Most of the dive shops run charters to inshore and offshore sites and will rent you equipment by the day or by the week. You won't find any live coral reefs, but there's a prolific artificial reef system of old bridge rubble, boats, box cars and even some old army tanks and most of the dive sites range between 30 and 60 feet of water.

There are also plenty of activities on land. Nature lovers can experience the natural beauty of Sarasota by walking, biking or hiking through wetlands, prairies and woodlands. There are designated walking and biking trails, as well as state and county parks offering a wide variety of opportunities to get out and enjoy the Suncoast's natural beauty. If you prefer a faster way to take in the sights, zip around Siesta Key with a scooter or bike rental, or take a ride on one of the world's largest airboats.

Even the most adventuresome traveler will be kept going for days with all the activities available in and around Sarasota.
