Art of the Olympians

The Art of the Olympians Museum is truly a one-of-a-kind gallery located in downtown Fort Myers historic district.  Through the vision and passion of former Olympian Al Oerter, a consecutive four-time discus gold medalist, and his wife Cathy, herself a former world-class long-jumper; this gallery is based on the early values of the Olympic Games.  Ancient Greek athletes were expected to foster their artistic abilities in art, literature, poetry and music as well as their physical strength and agility in sport; therefore producing more conscientious and enriched citizens.

Using oils, acrylics, bronzes, photographs and textiles, the Olympic Art Museum features artwork by more than 30 Olympian Athletes/Artists including Peggy Fleming, Shane Gould, Florence Griffith-Joyner, and Bob Beamon.  In addition, the museum has many interactive Olympic displays and memorabilia that makes it possible for visitors to experience what it is like to participate in these awe-inspiring games.

An extremely rare honor, the Art of the Olympians is one of only four locations in the country that is permitted to use the Olympic name and logo. So, if you’re curious about the artistic side of these world-class athletes, this is a must do activity you should check out while visiting downtown Fort Myers.

The museum also has a gift store and coffee shop.
