Explore All That is London — Past and Present

Just around the corner from St. Paul's Cathedral is the Museum of London, which presents the entire story of London. We're not talking only recent history — we are talking prehistoric London, a quarter million years of history. I hadn't expected that depth of information in this museum.

The Museum offers over one million articles and has new galleries and events running all the time, particularly during the summer. Be sure to check out the Lord Mayor Coach, on the lower floor.

There is no admission charge at the Museum of London.

The Museum of London has a sister museum, called the Dockland Museum, that tells the story of London's rivers, port and people who worked there. I found Dockland to be slightly more entertaining, using multimedia technology to demonstrate London's water history, plus it has the 1802 restaurant and a floating collection of vessels moored at the dock. The Children's Gallery offers hands-on exhibits including an interactive map tracing cargo back to its country of origin and much more.

To find the Docklands Museum, take the Tube train to the Canary Wharf station. Admission is £5.00 and children under age 16 are free.
