Shakespeare's Theater

Shakespeare's Globe Theatre Tour is the world's largest exhibition dedicated to Shakespeare and his works. The theater itself is a reproduction of the open-air playhouse designed in 1599, where Shakespeare worked and wrote many of his great plays. If you attend a play, you will be standing or sitting on wooden benches just the way they were 400 years ago.

Beneath the Globe Theatre is an exhibition of every aspect of Shakespeare's work, including interactive displays, live demonstrations, costumes, special effects and music, plus reproductions of printing and publishing from the period. The guided tour of the theater begins every 15-20 minutes, and booking is not necessary. During matinee performances when guided tours of the theater are not possible, visitors are taken to Bankside's first theater, The Rose.

Through May 5, 2006, operating hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; May 5 to October 2, 2006, hours are 9 a.m. to noon (theater tour and exhibition) and 12:30 to 5 p.m. (exhibition and Rose theater tour). Admission is £9 for adults and £6.50 for children five to 15. Ask about special family rates.
